Within an open notice , EPIC and a coalition of more than 175 civil community organizations, activists, technologists, along with other experts called “for a good outright ban on utilizes of facial recognition plus remote biometric recognition technology that enable mass monitoring and discriminatory targeted security. ” The letter desires lawmakers around the world to stop general public investment in facial reputation, prohibit government and personal use of facial recognition in public areas spaces, and mandate disclosure and reparations to people monitored or harmed simply by biometric mass surveillance techniques. The letter identifies one-to-many facial recognition identification (comparing an image to a gallery associated with identified images) as innately dangerous to the public since the databases of images allow discriminatory targeted surveillance as well as the technology itself enables extensive public surveillance. EPIC started pushing for a ban within 2019 with the launch from the Ban Face Security campaign plus recently joined over forty other organizations to call for a ban on U.
