EPIC Urges DHS to End Use of Face Recognition & AI Systems, Implement Algorithmic Impact Assessments

Within comments to the Homeland Security Section (DHS), EPIC highlighted systemic problems with several DHS techniques that use facial recognition or even artificial intelligence and advised the agency to end these types of programs. EPIC also advised DHS to put in place thorough algorithmic impact assessments prior to the agency undertakes any other AI or facial recognition tasks. Recently, EPIC joined more than 40 other organizations in order to detail the issues with police using facial recognition plus call for the law enforcement ban on the technology’s use. EPIC has suggested the Universal Suggestions for Artificial Intelligence as the basis designed for federal legislation. The General Guidelines have been supported by greater than 250 experts and sixty organizations in 40 nations.
